We have been helping the Graduates and Undergraduates of the University in various ways and held several public events to work with the general public, some of the activities undertaken by the AAUP CC recently are given below :

Helping the Flood Victims

We donated dry rations and cooked food to flood victims in Angoda Gothatuwa area last year using Members’ donations and Association’s funds.

Granting Scholarships to Peradeniya Undergraduates

Following Scholarships were granted at the last AGM.

1. WijithaMalewana Memorial Scholarship
   Awarded to Mr. K. M. B. de Silva who topped the batch at the 1st year examination in the Science Faculty.
2. Dhammika Gunarathna Memorial Scholarship
   Awarded to Ms. K. A. N. I. Kariyapperuma who obtained highest marks in Commerce at the 1st year examinations.
3. Ranbanda Senevirathna Memorial Scholarship
   Awarded to Ms. P. G. I. Maduwanthi who get highest marks for Sinhala from Anuradhapura District for the 1st year examination.
4. Karunajeewa Memorial Scholarship
   Awarded to Ms. M. A. F. Asma who obtained highest marks in Commerce at the 1st year examination of the Faculty of Management.
5. Innovative Pesticides Maketing (Pvt.) Ltd Scholarship
   Awarded to 2ns yer Agriculture student Ms. P. R. N. K. D. Pallemulla who was adjudged the most suitable student.
6. Eramudugolla Dunuwila Scholarship
   Awarded to Mr. V. R. Surasingha for obtaining highest marks for Mathematics during the 1st year.
7. Dr. Kamal Weerapperuma Scholarship
   Awarded to Ms. W. M. M. Hashini but she was not present to receive the award.
8. Asoka Wettasinghe Scholarship
   Awarded to most suitable 1st year medical student- Ms. S. W. P. D. Nirasha.

Sinhala Tamil New Year

This was celebrated in April 2017 with a large number of Council Members participating. There was an array of activities such as outdoor games and indoor games. The speaker for the event was Dr. Suriya Gunasekara.

SNRU Project

Furniture, Hearing Aids, Tape Recorders, and other equipment was donated to Special Needs Resources Centre through the auspices of the Commercial Bank worth over Rs. 270,000. Col. Dr. Udula Krishnaratna made a donation of a laptop and Rs.10,000 given by Dr. Savithri Perera to a needy student.

Annual Trip

Over 30 Council members and their family members joined in a one-day trip to Tangarine Hotel Kaluthara which was enjoyed by everybody.

Kelani Palama Benefit Show

This was held on 16thSepetember 2017 at the New Town Hall.

AAUPCC Peduru Party

AAPU in collaboration with the Colombo Chapter organized a Peduru Party on 14th October 2017 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee(75 years) of the University Of Peradeniya. Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake graced the occasion and it was held at the Post Graduate Institute of Science. It was a grand success and followed by dinner, Col. Dr. Udula Krishnaratna made two donations worth Rs.24,000/= on behalf of Dr. Ganga Sirimanne, Consultant Dermatalogist.

Donation to Aranayake Flood Victims

Donation of books, computers and other needy items are arranged through our Melbourne Branch worth Rs.250,000/=.
